Extra Programs

French Enrichment Program

An optional French Program is offered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Recent research indicates that introducing a child to a new language stimulates the young brain to form more connections. This promotes increased academic performance and test scores.

The McLoughlin French enrichment program provides your child with the opportunity to learn French through repetition and immersion in a small class setting. The program is held three times a week, for half an hour.

Children will be introduced to French through a variety of activities:

– Stories
– Songs
– Games
– Colouring
– Felt boards

Term 1:

– How to greet others
– Body parts
– Farm animals
– Family members
– Household items

Term 2

– Size, colours, numbers
– Verbs such as have, be, and want
– Simple phrases such as “I am hungry”, “I am thirsty”, “My name is…”

Term 3

– Clothes
– Weather
– Simple descriptions of animals, family, friends and household items

Children will be given a list of words to take home, providing your family the opportunity to learn and practice together.

Summer Camp Program

For the first two weeks following the end of the school year, The McLoughlin Schools offers a Summer Camp Program. This program is art and creativity based, run by our year-round nursery and kindergarten teachers. Having your child enrolled in this fun, play-based and nurturing program is a fantastic experience for both incoming and leaving students. The new children have the opportunity to become acquainted with the school, their new teachers and other classmates that will be starting with them in the fall. The leaving students get to spend these last two weeks in a leadership role, which is confidence boosting and a great feeling for them prior to transitioning into grade one.

The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the two-week period following the end of the school term. Some of the types of activities you can expect include:

• Daily music, including a weekly visit from Rob Joy
• Kite making
• Wood sculpture making
• Outdoor water play
• Sand play
• Modeling clay creation
• Puppet making
• Face painting
• Popsicle making
• And much more!
